After flash flooding in 2019 a bridge on the River Medlock, which meanders through the Leesbrook Nature Park, was washed away but never replaced by Labour-run Oldham Council.
In the absence of a bridge a popular footpath has been blocked off to walkers and cyclists from Lees.
A year on residents have sought help and assistance from Max Woodvine, a Saddleworth Parish Councillor.
Cllr Max Woodvine inspected the bridges on the river himself before contacting a Senior Technician of Structures & Drainage.
Cllr Woodvine said:
“This bridge was destroyed by a freak of nature so I’m glad OMBC have finally listened to us and replaced it to restore and reopen a popular route. However, it’s a shame it took them a year to do anything.”
“This saga could be a blockbuster and win an Academy Award for Lees. My great-grandfather was a guard at the Prisoner of War camp in the village, if it was still here they could have built a bridge.”
