Beth Sharp welcomes new River Medlock bridge

After flash flooding in 2019 a bridge on the River Medlock, which runs from Moorside, was washed away but never replaced by Labour-run Oldham Council.

In the absence of a bridge a popular footpath has been blocked off to walkers and cyclists.

A year on residents sought help and assistance from local Conservative campaigners and councillors who inspected the bridges before contacting a Senior Technician of Structures & Drainage.

A local campaigner in St James’ ward, Beth Sharp, welcomed the new bridge, saying:

“This bridge was destroyed by a freak of nature so I’m glad OMBC have finally listened and replaced it to restore and reopen a popular route, which is used by horse riders and residents of St James’. However, it’s a shame it took them a year to do anything.”
